South East England Fibreshed

The Fibreshed movement works to support the creation of regenerative soil-to-soil textiles and regional fibre systems by bridging the gap between farmers and designers/manufacturers through education, relationship building and systems change. At the South East England Fibreshed we are focusing on working with farmers with an interest in expanding their capacity to work with and sell sheep’s wool and dye-plants.

We are in the early stages of creating a collaborative network of regenerative fibre farmers and London and South East based designers to explore the possibilities of working with the resources in our fibreshed, in particular sheep wool, hemp and plant dyes. We are building a database of fibre farmers and designers whose work demonstrates a commitment to creating a soil-to-soil fashion and textile system.

The South East England Fibreshed is part of the global “Fibershed movement” started in North America by Rebecca Burgess. The South East England Fibreshed was launched in Winter 2019 and covers Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, Medway and London.

Please note, the spelling of Fibreshed varies across the website due to the difference in US and UK spelling. When we are referring to Fibresheds in the UK we use the UK spelling (fibre), and when refering to the Fibershed movement which originated in the US, we use the US spelling (fiber).

Sourcing the Future: A Soil-to-Soil Exploration of Native British Wool

Starting January 2027.

Clothing ourselves is an agricultural act” Rebecca Burgess.

Curated and led by South East and South West England Fibreshed, this 12-month, part-time programme invites designers, makers, and activists to rediscover the link between wool and the land. It combines hands-on material learning with the systemic thinking required to align your creative practice with the seasonal rhythms of our native landscapes.
